As I predicted, many adults and children have come down with snots and sneezes; well the kids have just gone back into an environment they haven’t been in for quite some time, so it was expected. There are things you can still catch besides the C word… my nose has been running all week and I have been sneezing like there’s a pepper pot moving about. However, I’m not worried, I don’t have a temperature and I haven’t lost my sense of smell; I have 4 males in the house, I think I would know if I lost that! NEWS I know there has been an email sent from Garforth Academy today to say that a person has tested positive for Covid, but because of the year bubbles, not all children will be affected, which is good to see their bubbles put in place, work.
Laugh or Cry
I wonder if anyone will ever name their child Boris? It’s certainly a name we will never forget in the history of our lifetime. Whether you agree with him or not, whether you think our Government is doing the right thing, or if you feel they keep messing it up and being far too delayed in their decisions to get on with it, unfortunately, its not really our judgement or power to do anything about it apart from rant about what they’re doing wrong, and many people are doing just that, across the world of social media – I was glad to see a bit of light entertainment when Matt Lucas popped up as Boris on this Tuesdays GBBO (so glad it’s back) laughed a lot. MORE NEWS it’s been released on social media just a short while ago that Leeds will be in local lockdown from midnight tonight, to get a true understanding, confirmation and update, it’s not for me to put down, you can find out all the information and what it means on the Garforth News and Events Page set out by our local Counsellors. The other new changes this week, we see new changes measures for many businesses, if you follow your favourites on social media, they are telling you what they are doing to keep within the guidelines and keep you safe whist visiting their business. Now the new Track and Trace App is available to download, each business is putting up a QR code for you to scan when you enter (give it time for them all to get this visible) some of the measures are good, but perhaps a little late in getting it right? What’s going to happen when the clocks go back, will covid disappear for an hour? You have to laugh or you could completely lose all your tears. We all need to do what’s right for our families and friends and stick to what makes us feel comfortable about being safe, at the end of the day, its unlikely I’m going to listen to someone on facebook who probably also thinks the world is flat! Anyway, onto a lighter note, it was nice to read yesterday that Self Employed people will be getting a little more help over the next few months, perhaps not as much as previously given, in the SEISS Grant but every little helps when you are a small independent business. I know I keep mentioning in my blogs and on my Wednesday Vlogs, that we should really do our best to look after our local businesses in order that they have a sustainable future. It’s nice to see and read, we have seen a slight turn in people spending locally, which is good news, but they really do need lots more of your help. There’s nothing nice about going to your favourite shop and seeing a sign that says, Closing Down. We need to look after all local, a shop on the high street or a business from home. Think local first before you look further afield, it could really make a difference to you and them. Some news in this week’s vlog about the, ‘very first type of business’ coming to Main Street. This week’s Vlog https://www.instagram.com/tv/CFeYjvIHBV0/?hl=en
Sad news
Last week, I mentioned that Caboose had received their planning application to open new premises on Parkinson Approach, sadly a short time after releasing this news, their plans have had to be put on hold. We wish both Dan and Flic good luck in bringing Caboose to Garforth in the not too distant future. Sad for us, good for them. The Heers are leaving Fairburn Drive Convenience store (AKA Roy’s) next week, Santok and Imen have been amazing shop owners and I know our family will really miss them. All I know about the new owner, is that has similar businesses elsewhere too. I would love to see them add some good quality, fruit and veg back into the mix – I’ll keep you posted
