GET DRESSED
Who would have thought we would see the day when people where not buying as many clothes! For a sustainable reason it’s a good thing, as Zero Waste Leeds released information this week saying that 4,000 tonnes of clothing and textiles end up in Leeds black bins every year; this is unreal! I buy to add to what I’ve already got, season to season, so buying fewer and better clothes. I do have a lot… but I have been collecting for years. However, as people feel they’re not going out as much or to work, we’ve seen a decline in purchasing of clothes. A few blogs ago I attached links to our three ladies clothes shops, we might not need a reason to buy something to go out in, but as Autumn is upon us and winter is around the corner, we still need to buy those warm items, so please think locally first. I’ve visited all three shops over the past couple of weeks and bought two items, only then did I go elsewhere when I couldn’t find what I was looking for.

A visit to the garden centre for lunch
I’m planning on taking my Mum (in our bubble) out each week for lunch, eat out, be local and doing so safely (until it changes again). So our first outing was at the garden centre, it was so well organised, we felt very safe and it was very clean, with a route in and a route out. Their menu was great, all online on their new App. so making it easy to order and be served at the table. The waitresses are showing you to a table, which again is a really good safe way of doing things, plus it was quite busy. As tables are placed at a good social distance, there isn’t as much availability for seating, so it would be advisable to book; I think we were quite lucky with our timing to get a table for two. If you don’t have a smart phone they can still take your order using table service. I just found their App. easy to use and being able to pay online too makes it all easy peasy. Like CLO’s App. its great, I hope some things are here to stay after all this is over.

Ison Harrison Solicitors mark the retirement of Martyn Phillips after 50 years working as a Property Solicitor
The team at Ison Harrison in Garforth along with managing partner Jonathan Wearing were keen to mark this amazing achievement by inviting Martyn along to their Garforth branch where he spent more than twenty years practicing as a property solicitor.
“We would have liked to have invited some of Martyn’s clients to share in this staggering career milestone as we know that many would have liked to have wished him well in his retirement and thank in for his support over the years, but it just isn’t feasible in current times” said Emma Beddoe, branch manager at Garforth. Martyn, who specialises in conveyancing matters as well as elderly client advice work, started his career in law as a trainee working for Spencer and Fisch in Leeds. He qualified in 1972 and after spending a number of years working in Bradford, he went on to open an office at 48 Austhorpe Road in Crossgates in 1978, originally as a partnership and later as a sole practitioner.
In 1996 his practice merged with Ison Harrison Solicitors. The office in Crossgates remained and is still part of Ison Harrison’s branch network. Martyn moved to work in the Garforth branch, taking over from Stephen Harrison who was one of the original founding partners of Ison Harrison. He remained at Garforth for 24 years and built up a loyal client base and an excellent reputation locally. Jonathan Wearing, managing partner said “Martyn has built up an extensive client following over the years due to the breadth and knowledge of his experience. This is a real credit to him and an inspiration to anyone who has a career in law. We wish him well in his retirement.” And what is next for Martyn? “I’m still not quite ready to fully retire. I plan to work on a consultancy basis a few days a week, certainly in the short term. Covid has taken the last 7 months of my working life away from me and so I want to feel like I have truly hit my 50 years milestone” said Martyn.
