The last blog of the year and what a challenging year it has been, if we counted all the negative things that have happened, we may fall into a deep dark state of sadness, and we really don’t need any more of that. Christmas is upon us and it might not be the usual one we would normally celebrate, but 2020 has not been normal – however, there is light, as we hear, nearly 200k people have been vaccinated thus far. This is definitely a start of us coming out of a very dark place the whole world has felt, and it needs to come to an end; well perhaps not the people who think God will save them and how they’re not going to have the vaccine due to there being a chip being installed at the same time, If there is, can I choose salt and vinegar on mine with a little bit of ketchup put in too!! Let’s hope we can celebrate a massive, chocolate-filled, present-giving Easter as our older and more vulnerable generation will, by then, be vaccinated, so then safer to come out and play, and then we can soon forget how bad it’s been…. everything crossed.
As predicted, we’re staying in the Tier we’ve all come to love to hate! Yes, it’s great for keeping people safe, and after coming out of lockdown straight into Tier 3, for many towns in West Yorkshire, it was clearly the right decision, as we have seen a significant drop in covid cases. As much as Tier 2 would be better for businesses, for people, it’s safer for now and through Christmas, and personally feel it was the best decision. Most people I know have done what we have, stayed safe and been careful, and I feel lucky our Thomboys have managed to stay in school, full-time since September and feel lucky, none of us, as yet have had to self-isolate; saying that, with working from home, we’re not exactly going anywhere, we only went out to Lidl the other day to buy something nice for lunch; it felt like a date! But if we all keep doing what we feel is safe for us and our family, hopefully after Christmas when they review again, we may see some changes!
I’m so happy the Thomboys are now off school though; not sure I would have said that in the middle of the year, having your children off school for 6 months is a bloody long time! However, I’m cream crackered and so are they, one in year 10 doing Mocks and 1 in year 6 doing SATS and me, doing on average 10k a day just walking, working, being mum, wife, slave, maid, and oh, Jesus chucking his birthday in – I NEED A REST! In a way, I’m actually quite glad there’s not a herd of people joining us this Christmas. I can for once, make sure I’m also having a good time….
- More announcement yesterday that some schools will go back under a staggered start in January, meaning some children will be home learning until they return. I wonder if this will affect all schools and our children?

I had a lovely chat on the phone with Steph, Co-owner of, ‘The Assembly’ which is due to open in January; well this is when they are proposing to open dependent on tiers, rules, regulations, and all that other stuff that keeps happening to the hospitality industry! Steph has added a vintage twist to their décor and keeping their seamless brand as Crossgates. There are two bar areas, there has been lots of knocking through walls in order to add one of the bars to what will be, a private function hire area upstairs – how exciting, another trendy, fun independent bar here in our lovely town, – Here’s to the bar opening as soon as they can and too soon hear about their opening launch.
