After a very long January, like us, some of you may have been paid this weekend. So is it the day to enjoy a Pay Day takeaway? Barclays Bank to close
Hearing today that Barclays will shut its doors on the 7th May. It’s always sad to lose a bank on a high street, especially for our older generation who don’t do online banking. I suppose a lot of us saw this coming. I know the owners of the building, and they are really great people, their plans may have changed since Covid struck, so we will just have to wait and see what appears in the building as they make decisions.
OUT, OUT
On Wednesday this week, I took my Mum to Superdrug in the Merrion Centre for her Astrazeneca Jab. it was extremely well organised and we both felt very safe. To be honest, town was like a Sunday morning, empty with hardly any traffic, along with very few people milling about, which is a good thing. I sat waiting for my Mum as she made her way down to the bottom of the shop to their makeshift clinic, my position was great, I was left in a booth at the front of the shop, a perfect space to be entertained by the people coming in. Now, when was the last time you were amongst lots of old people all at once; unless you work in a care home? The young girls greeting and meeting and taking details of all the people booked in were amazing, hats off to them, they were doing a sterling job, repeating the same thing over and over again, and sometimes 3 or 4 times to the same person! This is where the entertainment part comes in, now don’t take this as though I’m dissing old people; my mother will soon be 76, but their answers to the one main important question, “Do you have any Covid symptoms” were amazing;
Answers received:
‘I have had a cough for years love’
‘Taste? I’ve not been able to taste anything since 1942!’
‘I have an ingrowing toenail’
‘I have sore teeth’
‘My eye bleeds’ (worrying)
One lady took 10 minutes to get to her seat in the waiting booth only to be called up straight away, bless her little legs. It was like being in a place for elderly people, I’m not sure if I want to get old though, have health problems, loss of hearing, or eyesight. Most elderly people still have a great sense of humor, and some of these guys were hilarious, some of them were moody, but most were happy to be there to receive their jab.
Many of our local surgeries have now received the vaccine to administer. I hope, if you’re still waiting for yours, you will receive it very soon. Over 7 million people have now received the vaccine and this makes many feel happy that our vulnerable and elderly could soon be protected from being severely ill. When we do good things as a country, we do, do them well.

It has been suggested that if you’re outside in a queue, wearing a mask will help to reduce the transmission further. We all need to shop for food and drink, but this will help even more.
