Friday 12th February – Thank the half term for that

Thank Half term for that

OK, who’s ready for half term?  I’m so ready for a week of not printing, not sending work to school, and not chasing kids to get stuff done.  It feels like I’m juggling a circus and losing my mind over things I cannot control – some parents have their stuff together, congrats.  Some of us are juggling so many balls in the air, we don’t have enough hands to catch them all. There are not so many of my friends who are working full time as is their partner and have two kids at home remote learning, with no support at all.  They are out there, just not a lot of them.  Luckily, most people I know work part-time or are able to get some family childcare or school care.  I think I will be one of the parents you will see next at school, with a sleeping bag in one hand a bottle of Gin in the other, and be completely bald – but at least I’m healthy! Have a good break for those who can; even if it is at home…still!

Ready and waiting 

Who else is counting down to the 8th March when we’re all hoping that children will be phased back into an open school?  I think we’re all hoping that BoJo’s roadmap, briefing on the 22nd of February, will give us a little bit of good news; no matter how small, but perhaps we shouldn’t expect too much, as he has to get it right, and this is what I had to say about it on this week’s Vlog, as well as talking about the wonderful, Jackie Weaver who, like many of you, also liked my Vlog and is now following Garforthtoday!  A fabulous woman, who held her own and remained calm, she certainly showed those archaic parish councillors how ridiculous they were when they felt they had to stamp their authority by shouting the loudest; they just came across as aggressive arseholes. https://www.instagram.com/tv/CLHLE2jnu1g/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link

Please can we go?

We have just booked a staycation in Northumberland for later in the year, I’m praying that we will be able to escape. It’s in the middle of the country with a scene to die for, so I’m hoping by that time, most people will have been vaccinated and some restrictions will have been lifted.  As also mentioned in my Vlog this week, I mention Natalie Varley, our local Travel Counsellor and who I wholeheartedly, suggest you book any of your holidays with, because Natalie not only knows about who, and what is going on where she can also sort out any issues that may arise should your plans have to change. https://www.facebook.com/natalievarleyTC

Planning

Not much in the way of planning applications except lots of people with a plan to convert or extend their own homes with single-storey extensions; for office space maybe?  It’s becoming more likely that many people will continue to work from home for the foreseeable, but as mentioned in the past, do we think this is better for a work-life balance?

I’ve been wearing my Jessica Fletcher (murder she wrote) hat on trying to find out who’s going to take over Lasercharge’s old building.  We know it’s going to be a restaurant, and we know it’s going to be open from 12.00 until 00.00, so it’s wanting to also open in the day (should planning go through) so, after some and working out, and pulling some hints from the planning application; there’s not a lot of information on there.  Then my guess is Mr Hussain who already owns a series of restaurants in Leeds called, Akbars!  Most will agree we do not need another curry house, but 1. It doesn’t mean that’s what it will be and 2. I could be completely wrong.  But the investigation side is quite fun!

Flooding

We’ve had a fair amount of rain and snow over the past week or so, and as we know, it brings a fair amount of flooding in the area, more so on the main roads just outside of Garforth,  but should you have any local problems, this group can be a great source of information and help

With it being half term next week, there will be no blog next Friday. I will be back on the 26th of February when we hope, we’ve learnt some good news, and we can smell the hint of Spring in the air.
