The weekend before, the first release.
Only a few days to go and we can see people outside or in our gardens, go for a walk with five other people or another household, outdoor sport and leisure facilities can restart such as Garforth Golf Range, they will be open and they’ve been super organised getting it all ready for you to whack a few balls! PT sessions outside, and organised sports for kids back to it, will be the best release for many. Also, Outdoor Parent and Child groups up to 15 can also get back out in the fresh air, together – we’re moving in the right direction, won’t it be nice to see people and not strangers? Let’s all work hard to keep safe in order the 12th of April can happen.
SHOUT THEM OUT
I want to give a shout-out to all our health and exercise businesses who have, like many other businesses had the rug pulled from under their feet, some have been lucky to have been able to run classes online in order to keep people active, and their business alive.
Caroline Atha School of Dance probably has a threadbare carpet, she has been running all her classes from her living room, and I know, it’s not the biggest space, especially to do all the different classes she does.
Charlotte Martin has been doing Zumba classes over Zoom, and it’s been a godsend for many; probably fun for all the delivery drivers too seeing a load of women dancing and jumping in their homes. One of our local delivery drivers joined in with me through the window!
Gymophobics – The gym has been running online classes for members and encouraging all their members to ‘step it up’ for St Gemma’s Hospice with a 129k steps challenge
K W Personal Training – Still offering advice and keeping her clients on track through online help and soon as the above can happen, so can fitness outside.
Bumps and Babes our two local midwives who normally do baby swimming classes in Garforth and run Pramercise at Temple Newsam, they have also been running zoom, ‘Get active mums’ classes
Kat from Funky Jives running free Youtube sessions to keep all the pre-schoolers active and fit, and perhaps giving parents a little break too.
Our slimming and weight loss classes such as Garforth Slimming World and 1:1 Diet by Cambridge Weight Loss with Donna has also been on hand online helping keep their existing and new members that much needed support when losing weight, especially with those lockdown layers we’ve all put on.
So Hats off to all our health and fitness indies that have managed to keep it going, one way or another.. and thanks to you, you’ve probably kept quite a few locals healthy and fit throughout.
Our High Street
Before Covid entered our world, our high street was doing really well and changing with new indies and a good variety of business, heading in the right direction to become ‘our high street,’ and not just an everyday high street. However, we still have some who desire, a high street from 1980/’90s, “I wish it was like it used to be.” The only thing I would like from this era is the footfall. As mentioned a few Vlogs ago, over this past year, we have seen many people’s habits change due to Covid, and I wonder if people will return to what they did before, or rely on Mr. Amazon more? What these companies can’t do is give an experience that a high street can, and this is what we need in our high street, a place to be… hear what I had to say this week, it’s all good moving forward, walk with me! https://www.instagram.com/tv/CMzZLYCnYAS/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link
You may have also seen the new build opposite the library, as well as apartments this will also bring new premise opportunities for new businesses too.
GARDEN
Apparently, this is meant to be the weekend to get your garden in order, well, at least start on it. Personally, I’m all gardened out after breaking down a huge shed and carrying it through the house. We were like He-man and She-rah the day we took it down, but at 50 and 46, the next few days we were more like Wayne and Waynter (if you know, you know) SKIP HIRE, if you want to get a skip outside your house, you could probably fill it tenfold as so many people come and take from it, which I kind of like as they’re reusing. Ours was mainly wood, and so many people have taken from it to reuse and rebuild things, including my little old friend Mick, who’s using a lot of it to build some new planters for Incredible Edible Garforth and a roof in his garage = Happy days
Clocks spring forward this weekend – you know, the one where you lose an hour!!!! But it brings benefits of the lighter nights and lighter mornings, worth it?
With it being Good Friday next week, followed by the Easter holidays, the blog will be back on Friday 24th April; I’m hoping to have a new garden by then, one to sit and relax in
