I’m never been a footy fan, none of us are to be fair. Even though I was born with a semi-scouse accent, people are horrified to learn that I didn’t come out of my mother’s womb in a blue or red football kit, so we have very little knowledge about who’s playing and when, we’re a bit rubbish, we’ve never even watched Star Wars either; do you even know me?
As my youngest Thomboy was sent home AGAIN this week to isolate for yet another, 10 Fu**ing days (not bitter) as there was another COVID chaos case in his bubble, he’s resorted to learning from the laptop, again; such joy for parents as well as kids. One of his lessons this morning was all to do with the history of Football! I suspect because of this evening’s game, and since England played Scotland last in 1066.. joke! It’s kind of a big deal to many people, including his teacher. I truly wanted to change it to shoes, I love shoes, let’s talk about the history of shoes, all the names of all the designers and when is best to wear them, how much you would pay for them, when they hurt your feet, take them off and swap them… the link is uncanny, and for me, a lot more interesting!
Anyway, I’m on a train to the Wirral….. yes a train, and it feels very strange. I don’t think I have been on public transport for about 2 years, let alone being in a confined space with people I don’t know. I’m off to the Wirral for one night only, for a sad reason really, but I think it may also turn out to be a nice thing. One of my school friends sadly passed away a few short months ago and, as Covid restrictions were in place, we were unable to attend his funeral. Therefore, this evening, my school friends and I are off to a pub garden, for his memorial; it’s quite handy one of our old primary school friends owns a pub! It will be a great way to remember and celebrate a great character he was, as well as seeing my besties which I haven’t seen for quite some time. New and normal things happening, it will be a lovely but strange time.
FEASTIVAL – possibilities
The Feastival team got together this week to discuss the possibilities of holding Garforth Feastival this year. We are fairly confident we will be able to do it, it’s just making sure it’s safe to do so for us, the stallholders, the musicians, and you, the people attending. Volunteers can be Incredible
I had a great coffee with Dan from Incredible Edible Garforth this week, he’s a man after my own heart, full of fabulous ideas and plans, and he gets things done. Incredible is growing massively all over Leeds and it’s down to him and volunteers that are making it happen – good volunteers are really hard to come by. A volunteer needs to have time, understanding, and want, the time and understanding to want the good of the project they are volunteering for. Planning
New Premises opposite the library – I’m hearing on the grapevine, that a business has taken both units under the new apartments that have recently been built. It’s quite pricey, so I’m thinking it’s a chain! There are so many businesses waiting to get onto Main Street, quite a few indies which would be a great addition and to keep the balance right on our high street. I hope whatever it is that’s coming along, will be something new, something different and not a duplicate of what we already have – here’s hoping.
Traffic Works – 22nd June from 9.30-3.30pm

For Lidgett Lane, Buses 163,166 &175 will be diverted via Selby Road whilst the works are being carried out
Unfortunately, there will be no Blog next week, as I will be in Chester at a hospital appointment with my youngest Thomboy, so I will be back on Friday 2nd July.
