Freedom day is upon us, but many don’t feel free. We will never be free from Covid, it’s here to stay and it’s how we manage it going forward. I’ve never really listened to BJ; he’s being advised what to say anyway, so I only listen to the advisors, one being Chris Witty. Unfortunately, his surname doesn’t mean he’s a man of wit but he’s certainly someone who is knowledgeable and worth listening to. Chris says we need to take things incredibly slow, and I agree, let’s keep doing what we need to, to feel safe. Mask on, Mask off, this is down to you.
I am now quite fed up with bursting school bubbles, as are many parents and teachers, Thomboy’s bubble burst yet again for the third time this week. I know things will change this Monday, and as mentioned in the news, it will be up to children to inform their parents if they have been in close contact with a child who has covid. However, so many more kids are off, and missing out on so much, again, I think this is more damaging. Some kids enjoy being at home, but I know most kids have had enough of learning at home as have their Teachers, I’m sure they too are fed up with zooming from their homes. Here’s to a better year going forward for all our little people, it has to be better, right?

If like me, you think this year your child’s teacher needs a pub or restaurant to themselves, also think about the vouchers you could also buy. I know if I was a teacher, I’d be an alcoholic! Hats off to them all, they were already amazing before this pandemic. There may be a few more ideas popping up in the lead-up to the end of term next week, I will share them all to help give you more ideas.

Tomorrow, we see Kirsty Bedford Art, part of Garforth Arts Network and Jenny of The Last Supper Co. outside Refill & Go, the weather is looking just fine so bob along, go see, go buy, and take something home to eat, for an afternoon garden picnic in the sunny, sun, sun!

Roadworks, roadworks… so many, so little access. However, I do like some of the new lines along Ninelands Road. Can we have some more yellow ones please, as recently, it’s become like a dog agility course, in and out and around the cars that have parked like they’re in a cul-de-sac? Some of the new lines say, ‘SLOW’’ not sure we can go fast, to be honest!
Summer break – many of us are looking forward to a summer break, whether it be in the back garden, on a staycation, or the brave ones, flying away to a traffic light destination. August is generally really quiet for our local businesses and they struggle for footfall. So if you are at home, keep shopping local, when you can. Remember, it’s not just about food. Do you know you can get lots of BBQ paraphernalia from Pease of Garforth? Do you know you can get some great items to transform your garden too, as well as Garforth Building Supplies down Ash Lane?
Next week is our last blog for summer, as I step away(ish) for the holidays. If you’re an avid follower, you will know I do this every year. The blog will be back in September, with hopefully, many good things to share.
