Friday 10th September – Welcome Autumn; well I say autumn

How hot has it been?  Welcome, kids-go-back-to-school-and-out-comes-the-sun Autumn!  It’s so muggy, and I hate moaning about good weather, but it’s been like a constant hot flush; if you too are a woman in her mid 40’s you will understand, and if you’re a partner, it’s best you understand!    September is a quirky month, not only was I born on the 12th….send cards to……49, Ac !  But it’s always had that strange grab of autumn with summer not wanting to let go. The leaves aren’t quite turning, but the conkers are growing, it’s also the month I leap away for a long weekend with my school friends, and this year is more needed than ever, especially as we never made it in 2020.  Here’s to much laughter; you may hear us from Chester…. cackling scouse birds

If you have been away, congrats, well done you, this has been the first summer that we haven’t been anywhere… it’s been hard.  You see, my Mother in Law is moving to be near us, traveling all the way from North Wales to be closer to family, when I say closer, I mean close… 5 doors away!  yes, yes, I know, I must be crazy… ask me in a few months when she has finally moved, which is one of the reasons we chose not to go away, as she was due to complete and be in by August… like moving house ever goes to plan!  Now go away and pray for me.

It’s nice to see kids back in school without restrictions, the Thomboys have gone back into year 11 and year 7, last and the first year. I truly hope they are all able to stay in for the full year.  They need to get back to it for the sake of everything and everyone.  Fingers crossed that we don’t need another lockdown anytime soon or anytime in the lead-up to winter.

Mask up

Many people are still wearing their masks, us included, but mainly in busy areas, such as supermarkets or where it specifies you should still wear one.  I have no problem with keeping my mask on for a short period of time as it means if I can stay a little bit safer, then for me and my family it’s the best option.  Many people think that because they have been double jabbed, then they are immune… SHOUTING you’re not.  I have heard some crazy stories from people over the summer, and also some unfortunate stories where people have been double jabbed contracted it, and have still be knocked off their feet – just do what’s right for you and your family, but please don’t think this thing has gone away.

Sad news, but for the best.

We have decided not to go ahead with the Feastival this month – but here’s to a big badass Feastival in July 2022

“It is with very heavy hearts that we must announce that our Feastival event 2021 can no longer go ahead.
Unfortunately, we were unable to get the required permission to hold the event in our desired location (it would have been away from Main st this year), and perhaps for many more obvious reasons including staff shortages and supply issues, too many of our stallholders have been unable to commit.  As organisers, we have tried our hardest to get this to you this year so we are incredibly sorry to all those who were looking forward to it as much as we were.”

Our next “dig day” is on Sunday 12th September. For those not going straight to the bed at East Garforth station on Woodlands Drive 🚞 or the Bee & Butterfly garden 🐝🦋 please meet at the Jubilee Garden (between Lord Gascoigne & The Miners on Aberford Road at 9.30am.
Our next dig day after this is on Sunday 26th September & then Thursday 7th October, again meeting at the Jubilee Garden at 9.30am. We are looking forward to meeting our new members too. Don’t forget your gardening gloves & trowel

 

Sunday September 12th Between 11.00 am- 3.30 pm – It’s Apple picking at Lotherton Hall

We will have staff working from the orchard cabin.
For £1.50 visitors will be supplied with a bag for filling with apples, an orchard plan identifying all the trees, and an information leaflet.
There will be a limited amount of long handled apple pickers available to borrow, with a £5 deposit required.
At some point during the day, freshly picked apples will be processed into juice and samples will be available for tasting.
There will be vegetable carving in the stables from 11am until 3pm

Planning

  • Things are moving inside TUI’s old premises, I’m hearing on the grapevine it’s another Barbers!  #WOTS
  • Bunz and Shakez are also ‘nearly there’ I really hope they get it right, it’s a place that needs to tick the boxes properly this time
  • Pride and Produce premises still hasn’t moved in any direction
  • Barclays Bank has had its doors open with something going on inside!
