Welcome back, if you managed to get away over the half-term holidays, I hope you had a lovely time.
When Fireworks go up, do you go ‘WOOOO” or ”WEEEE?”
Remember, remember, the 5th November; well we’re not going to forget it, are we? Sadly, and for some, bonfire night is a night of terror, hate, disgust, complaints, and moaning, along with terrified animals who really are, terrified and more and more requests for silent fireworks grow. However, even if there were rules to only have organised firework displays, and it became illegal for people to buy them over the counter, people would still make something, somehow…and the dark web would become even darker! Silent fireworks are a thing to consider I suppose, but would it be the same?
The Garforth and District Lions event will be on this evening, PLEASE WALK to Glebelands as there are no facilities to park. Go for a WEEEE before you leave too, as there are no toilets. You can also watch from your own garden – it’s quite handy that fireworks are up in the sky and can be seen all across Garforth!
Here’s more info – the Firework display will be at 7.00 pm

WHAT’S ON?
Garforth’s first Christmas Fayre will be held at the Welfare Hall tomorrow in aid of Teenager Cancer Trust From 10 am- 1.00 pm

Also, Garforth Arts Network will have their monthly stall with Clare from, Eat, Sleep, Art, Repeat. Kirsty Bedford and Willow & Pot

Footfall yet to return
A few of our local businesses have not seen the return or levels of the good footfall they were getting before Covid. It is a fact, that if we don’t shop, they will drop, they will drop off the Main Street and then we may get more of what we don’t want – it’s up to us to keep what’s here. I know a few locals have complained a bit about consistency in opening hours, and I agree, this is something that needs to be consistent so folks know when businesses are open and closed, but are there other reasons as to why you haven’t returned to the shops you once used?
The Worst type of moaners – I’ve had a few this week
People who moan with no solution, people who moan when they don’t use a town or a shop, people who have perceptions about something or someone, yet don’t really know, people who hate what they don’t understand, and people who moan on a social media platform just to start a thread of other moaners, are amongst the worst moaners….. As a town, sometimes we just can’t win, hear what I had to say on this week’s VLOG https://www.instagram.com/p/CV0JGnoLLsM/ – I know, the irony right, here’s me moaning about the worst moaners!
Planning
- Aldi is looking at 5 new areas in Leeds to house a new supermarket, Garforth / Thorpe park is on their radar. People have asked me where I think they will be looking, and as much as I think Thorpe Park would probably make the most sense. It was suggested last night that the old Strikes Garden Centre on Swillington Common would probably be a good choice, and I agree, it would certainly be the best use of space, if not near the M1 on the left, heading out towards Aberford. We’ll just have to see what space and when.
- A new dentist that had planning permission to take over the empty premises underneath the new apartments on Lidgett Lane, have now had their plans approved, another dentist though? Another space to watch
- Micklefield to get a new take-out? Let’s hope plans get passed, it needs more, and this could be a start https://publicaccess.leeds.gov.uk/online-applications/applicationDetails.do?keyVal=QY2U9WJBJ9900&activeTab=summary
What’s coming and what you can order now to collect from the 24th November Christmas Holiday Poster (4)
