HAPPY CRAPPY NEW YEAR
January is bad enough, most people are knackered, fat, fed up, skint, the pretty lights are all down, and there’s little to look forward to… (sorry, keep reading, it gets better) and this is still with Covid hanging around our necks; or lungs! We are all so fed up with it, but if we all get boosted, it will go away far more quickly, or if you don’t, you could be the host for a new variant and the bugger will never go away; just a thought! So many people are not getting boosted because they can’t be bothered, because they have read on social media there are side effects and they can’t have time off work if there are…. my head hurts…….. If you want to travel this year, just get vaccinated so we can dilute this thing, or every year new year will continue to be a crappy one!
Follow the many
On social media, I follow lots of platforms to find out what’s going on, in and around Garforth that might impact you, or our community whether it’s news, changes, planning, business, activities, or traffic issues. Most of the time, these platforms are extremely helpful, and I can share information with you fairly quickly on what’s going on. Unfortunately, there is always one that surprises or shocks, some can be funny. For example, there’s a Twitter account that always shares the ghosts and apparitions they have seen in Garforth; it’s cringe, especially if the ghosts have been caught in a compromising position! Yes, I know… weird but wonderful, it sometimes brightens a day. However, yesterday when scanning Twitter, I came across an extremely unfortunate person who had posted a video of himself, walking right into The Holiday Inn in Garforth, trying to prove to his followers of BRITAIN FIRST (makes me want to vomit) that there are Migrants living there waiting for housing, the only thing he proved was how vile and racist he was, walking in and harassing people for questions whilst they were just eating their breakfast. Trying to prove a point that just wasn’t there, he also breached so many data protection rules as there were kids in his video. What caught him out (not that he would admit) was, every single person was kind, helpful, and answered in their best English; that they have learned in a short time. They were sadly so naive as to what he was doing and merely just trying to get their life into some kind of order, glad to see this twonk was soon ushered out by security, but unfortunately too late as he’d already captured what he thought was great evidence for his argument…. It wasn’t, it was horrendous, rude, and vile. Fortunately, I reported him to Twitter and it has now been removed. There is no room for racism and some people need to stop thinking their superior to others… Follow the many, not the few in this case

Don’t be a TOP (Typical Old Person)
Many aren’t, but many are…. What happens when you get past a certain age, where you feel you need to find the negative in everything, comment about it or narrate what’s going on when you’re out and about and you become very hard to please? (you know, you know someone) It’s as though the world and everyday events are all so terrible, like a huge grey cloud hangs over everything, whether just having a coffee and a cake in a café, it’s all just not right and needs vocalising! I know many of my friends who have parents or grandparents who fall into the TOP category, it wears you down, it drains the life out of anything that’s positive, like an energy vampire, a joy vacuum! I’m quite a positive person, if there’s a problem I find a solution, if things need changing, how can we go about it… I’m hoping it’s a generation thing, and that my generation of people moving into the older category (I’m only 47) will just be hooligans…. having lots of laughs into the wee small hours of the morning, holidaying all year round, and following icons like Iris Apfel and Miriam Margolyes – but this might just be my wish for getting old! BE HAPPY whilst you still have time, it’s not that you don’t need to care about it, just don’t worry about it, embrace the new, the different, the weird, the fun…. It’s how life moves, move with it, we don’t need to hear why you don’t like it.

PLANNING
- As mentioned in a post this week, and on the VLOG, The Bird In Hand public house is up for sale, and we all know that a pub, is not what it needs to be, those good old days were gone a long time ago. What has come out of this very popular and engaging post, it that people want to see a change in our area, a community hub, a creative place, a studio of creatives, an engaging area for the many? This is something we need to work on, the discussion. There is no reason why these things just happen in a city centre, we need them to happen locally and engage more people to use their local services and enjoy it. The Bird in Hand, if you’re interested, is £500k…. All offers need to be in by end of next week I think… so you know, if you have a good bank account, many people will support you… otherwise, I feel it will go to a developer!

Garforth Train Station – Listed building application for the erection of new Beacon footbridge (with steps and lift towers) including an enhanced link to Aberford Road, dismantling of the existing footbridge, and installation of temporary footbridge as part of the Access for All scheme at the train station – YIPPEE
