This week we have been celebrating International Women’s Day, or as I like to call it in this week’s Vlog, Independent Women’s Day.  Have a listen if you haven’t caught up with this week’s earlier episode, you may learn something new about me too… lucky you!    The theme this year is about breaking the bias, making everyone inclusive, accepting of women in everything we do, work, creativity, technology, forging changes, empowerment, health, and sport, If you don’t understand why this happens, or why this day is needed, if like me, you have worked in a male-dominated sector, no explanation is needed.  Working together, works out better

Our local businesses have been doing something

This week I have been sharing many posts from some of the wonderful things our local businesses have been doing to help the people of Ukraine – please keep following, there are some wonderful things happening, from Firths Butchers selling Kievs for Kyiv and donating proceeds, to Caroline Atha School of Dance asking their dance students this week to wear yellow and blue, and they have already raised just over £500.  CLO is selling their India Coffee in-house and donating to The Red Cross, Taylors Hair Salon is selling blue and yellow ribbons, and last night, Nick Simpson from Tribe Energy has created a shoebox drop off point at their offices 26a Main Street (upstairs. A looooong week

The main Thomboy of the house has been in Gibraltor all week, so I have been holding the fort, working and managing everything, you know how it works when your other half isn’t there, you think they don’t do as much as you until they go away and then you think…. ‘Oh, but you’re so convenient being here!’ More so since most other halves work from home full time now, I’m just used to other noises and someone else making my breakfast or lunch!   I’m really rubbish when I’m on my own, I generally sort the kids out and forget about myself. I hardly eat or drink (alcohol) yet I still don’t manage to lose any bloody weight!   I know lots of people who give themselves a challenge, and try to do 10 thousand steps a day, which is great, better than being forever sedentary and growing a larger than the average bottom, but from Monday through to Friday I end up walking the equivalent of a marathon… every week and it’s not a challenge, it’s a pain in the backside…WHY AM I NOT THIN?  I’m blaming the hormones!

Planning
  • Great to see in planning that CLO has had their application approved for :  Rear single-story extension to the existing coffee shop, roasting house, and cafe. Including access to and seated area on roof for outdoor dining for cafe. – so very excited that this has been approved – now lets watch this space

Will we have 2 places in the sky to eat and drink!

  • Great to also see that the corner shop at the top of Main Street withdrew their application for a takeout!  However, I believe the shop currently has  a new application for a liquor license!!
  • If you are wanting to plan a Street Party for the up-and-coming Queens Jubilee in June, here are some details you will need to know before getting organised https://www.facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=5282694848408975&id=126980367313808
  • Lots of people ask if I know what’s going on, on Aberford Road just past the Aagrah on the piece of land that has forever rumored to be something, development, retail, a prison at one point!  At present, I can only see it has been created as parking for work vehicles – with a plan for what, I’m not sure!  I’ll keep digging…

Until next week... find out which local business is doing something for Ukraine, and help where you can.
