For 2 years, I’ve managed to escape it, but the inevitable was going to happen… no, I didn’t watch Tiger King… Covid got me, like a big high five in the face with a deck chair, and then I infected a friend, my husband, and my mother-in-law, and that’s how this gig works my friends. Unbeknown to me, I must have had Covid last Thursday, but only felt rubbish late Friday evening, then really rubbish Saturday morning. As I was due to go and see Gregory Porter live at The First Direct Arena… .Who is Gregory, I hear you ask? Rude, I shout….He’s the most amazing Jazz Singer of our time, sorry, one of the most amazing jazz singers, I have to add Jamie Callum in there too. Anyway, I thought it was best to take a test before taking myself and a friend to a large arena with many people, only to be informed 10 minutes later by the horrid and ugly red line we all dread, I was in fact, with Covid; it’s nearly as bad as waiting for a pregnancy test that you don’t want to be positive! By the way, if you get a sore throat and sneeze more than one of Cinderall’s little mates, keep testing!
So, this week I’ve been off sick, sorry no, I mean I have been working from the couch with my laptop…you see, there’s no one for me to call, no one to share my husky ill voice to, and no-one to feel sorry for me, and wish me a speedy recovery back to the office… so the couch it was, working whilst watching morning TV (which is awful) pouring good coffee down my neck, and eating many food items, it was my only option! BUT TODAY, I’m free, free to go out to skip, jump, and smile at people again… I’m not good at being ill, and I will also learn to keep quiet, as only last week, I said out loud… ‘ Ooo, I haven’t had a cold since December 2019’… not feeling so cocky now!

We had a great meeting last Thursday, sorting out all the little bits that need ticking to make our event great, and safe, and discussing what cocktails would work best at the Feastival (important) It’s so great having good friends who run a Gin Shack. Rebecca will be at the Feastival and at GFest the following week too. Her new cocktail offerings are pretty fabulous, and she’s working with a company that has very clever branding… I like it – By the way, today is World Cocktail Day… So get yourself down to one of our local fabulous establishments serving great ones too… you’re welcome

‘Give a Little Respect’
When you are lucky enough to get a really good local tradesperson to your home to build either something new or make something look new again. Please be mindful that these people, like you, need to earn a wage. All too often, we hear from our local businesses, especially tradespeople who have to chase for final payment for works completed. Imagine if you got to the counter at our local Tesco’s, and they told you what the total was, and you said, ‘yeah, I’ll pay you next week sometime,’ or your Employee told you they will pay you at some point that week, and you had to chase for it! Not only would that be a big, ‘I don’t think so,’ moment, but it would also set you into a panic, you need to pay for things, and many direct debits and standing orders are due out of your account any day soon! So please give a little respect, and make sure you pay our independent businesses when the work they have done at your request is completed.
WAYS TO PAY Ask if you can pay by BACS transfer before they leave, or if they have a card machine to hand, a lot of our local businesses have portable handheld devices they carry around that work with their mobile phones. Alternatively, if you can pay only by cheque, some of our businesses can scan your cheque into their business account there and then. Give a little respect to our businesses, they’re just people, like you and me, earning a crust to feed their families.
