I hope you’ve all had a fabulous weekend enjoying the Jubilee Festivities (if you had time off)? Hands up who admits the best bits were Prince Louis and the fabulous antics you can get away with as a 4-year-old? So good to see, normal child behavior, even if you are royal! And of course, the Queen’s engagement with Paddington Bear….sweet, and shows she truly does have a good sense of humour.
I loved that some of our local streets were partying, and people were engaging in the pomp and ceremony over the whole weekend. I thought there were some powerful messages throughout too, through art, song, and dance, I especially loved Diversity’s section, so cleverly done. I also think it’s been such clever marketing following on this week for William, Katherine, and their family, they will be the change the Royals need in order we keep our next generation engaged. They work their platform well, and they will do such great things, I expect they will sell off and change a lot of what they don’t need; when Will takes over the reins, and the time is right. I know the Queen is still here, but Imagine when Will does step into his Dad’s shoes, (as much as we think it’s probably better Will wears the crown next, Charlie, Charles has been working towards being King his whole life, and he isn’t going to just hand the gold over easily. ) But when Will does become King, imagine if he reduced the amount the royals spend on their homes, on pomp and ceremony, and on unnecessary over-the-top events? I think this would be a good move, they will bring it to the now, update it, and I think they will do a grand job… It will just depend on how long Charles is King and if there will be any more damage done! Rebecca from The Gin Shack and I were out and about yesterday putting up our Garforth Community Feastival banners. They are so good, and we can thank Shelly Cole (a local helpful graphic designer) and Andy Simpson from Fast Signs for helping get these created and printed.
