We have lots of groups in Garforth, all run by fabulous volunteers who want a better and brighter community. You will have seen many posts out on social media over the past few weeks, screaming for volunteers… yes, screaming. Generally, the ‘ask nicely’ approach doesn’t always work. However, we do realise it’s a problem in Garforth; as well as in many other towns, asking for and receiving help from people voluntarily, is a challenge. So, the wonderful Dan from Incredible Edible is looking at a possible solution… If there is a benefit to you, would you volunteer? Watch this space, the benefits could be good all around.

Barclays Bank
I had a lovely meeting in CLO with some of the team from Barclays Bank’s business sector. They are really wanting to help local businesses, despite not having a visual presence, they are still here to help. Many of our smaller and local tradespeople are one-man/woman band, and it’s these people that need advice and good services, especially just knowing what can now be done for them to make things more efficient when accepting money from clients. Debbie and Christine from Barclays have gone away and are we’re hoping to see; if their budget allows, to bring a pop-up showcase event to Garforth, to show what Barclays can do for businesses, whether it’s a small one-person band or a company with a turnover of £400k a year; that won’t be me then! – I will post details in advance should this be something they are able to do locally – helping local businesses in lots of ways
TURN UP
We have so many people not turning up for appointments, whether it’s a medical appointment, a class, a reservation, a hair, and care or beauty appointment, people just don’t turn up, nor do they bother to ring and cancel. It costs our small businesses so much money when people don’t give enough notice to cancel, or just don’t bother. It costs nothing to phone, text, or message that company to cancel. I know we have brought this topic to light not so long ago, but it’s a real problem, and sadly the age group that is most likely to not bother statistically, is aged 17-34…. Planning
It was nice to see some more movement happening in the old premises of Barclays (yet to be named) so I’m hoping, LCC planning has given the thumbs up for more things to move forward, here’s hoping we see and hear more soon.
