Friday 1st July – You don’t have to think old

Did you watch or go to Glastonbury last weekend?  I’m a sensible Festival goer and watched from the comfort of my sofa with a glass in my hand… not thug-like, I mean wine glass!  There were many acts that were very good, interesting, new, and a bit fabulous.

Not being a lover of Sir Paul McCartney; yeah, yeah, yeah… I know I should like all things Beetlemania being from Merseyside, but I don’t!  What it truly showed about getting old is, you don’t have to think old, keeping your interest in something you love, keep doing the things that keep your mind, body, and soul active is the way to go; then at 80, you can do something like a two and a half-hour gig – pretty awesome in itself!  I know many people in their 80s who couldn’t even get on the stage let alone sing, and it’s not necessarily because they are ill, or old, but because their mindset is just…. old!   Just because your age number increases, if you overthink you can’t, you won’t.  When you are of any age staring retirement in the face, and if you are fit and well, then do you have to retire completely?  Retiring from your job is one thing, just don’t retire from your life?  Keep going, keep doing, and keep loving the things that keep you active; even though we know, Sir Paul will have been knackered for a few days, he’s 80, and still remembers all the words, but it may also be because he has Scouse attitude!

Independents Weekend, 2nd July – 3rd July

We welcome July, yes already! For the states of USA, they like to celebrate Independence Day, however, it seems the UK has adopted it too but with their own twist

2023 is fast approaching so, in just a few weeks, we’re going on tour for 3 months across all 33 wards of Leeds. The Roadshow includes 33 events, one in each ward, where you can meet some of our team to find out more about what we have planned next year.

What to expect

From Headingley to Holbeck and Garforth to Guiseley, we’ll be working with community hubs and venues across the city to host The Roadshow. These events are open to the public for you to learn more about who we are and what we’re doing. It’ll be an opportunity to find out more about our programme for 2023, hear about our upcoming opportunities, and see how you can help us let culture loose.

Some people just need tasering 

Last night, between 11.45 pm and 5.30 am this morning, The Station House Cafe was vandalised with a bloody big brick thrown through one of their windows, causing this mess.  Unfortunately, there is no CCTV footage in that area so nothing has been picked up.  Also, last Thursday, one of their outside bins was set on fire.  If you did see anything going on in this area, on your way home, passing by, please contact Jo and Luigi at 0113 286 6322

Planning: 

This Monday 4th July, there are planned strikes in relation to the fuel prices, this will likely affect all major roads in the area such as M1 and M62, so please just be aware should this go-ahead
