Wow, the sun is coming, and there’s going to be no escaping it, and it’s real worry, worrying that we will see temperatures in parts of England reach 40 degrees on Monday, and possibly Tuesday! When will ALL of the world step up to its importance, not wait for the red flag of danger before they talk seriously about the huge changes needed NOW, not about being greener by 2025 or Carbon Neutral by 2030…NOW. Many of us were learning about climate change back in our GCSE day (1991) and here we are with these temperatures upon us! The sun being out is one thing, it’s the numbers that are a worry, what will our winter bring? The UK is not geared up for any kind of extreme weather conditions, because it shows, we shouldn’t be having them!
Home and Away
However, this week it’s been really nice to see kids out of blazers – I’m not sure when the change came, and if it was the polite and correct way of communicating with our school to see if they had any plans to make children more comfortable, or the thread of abuse on the school forum pages? Defibrillator
Well Done to Business Works UK our local accountants near the library on Lidgett Lane who has invested in an external Defibrillator. We are so lucky in Garforth that businesses, schools, and sports centres as well as dentists and doctors have these life-saving pieces of equipment. There are many locally, and I know of 3 near me on the Fairburn estate that I could access. When you phone 999 they will tell you where the nearest Defib. is, so you don’t have to learn about them all, off by heart..!
What’s on tomorrow?
Lots going on this weekend, but for me and the team the most important is, Garforth Feastival, from 10 am – 6 pm at Garforth Leisure Centre (not main street)
*Some stalls are cash some are card, and some are both, so be prepared.
Eat, drink, listen and dance if you feel the mood is right, which it will be as it’s sunny and we’re a fun team.
PLEASE WALK TO THIS EVENT if you can, as there are very limited parking spaces in the area (NONE at the leisure centre)
- ZFest – Lord Gasgoine from 12 pm until late in memory of Zac. There are many great bands playing this day.
- Saturday and Sunday at Lotherton Hall – Edwardian Weekend – will be on Saturday and Sunday – this is like a traditional day of games, fun, laughter, and music, just as it would have been back in Edwardian times
- Tuesday 19th July – WI Garforth meeting including a talk by the lovely Garforth Hedgehog group – Firthfield Community Centre from 8 pm, First meeting is free
