Happy Anniversary to The Main Deal (me)…9 years this month since The Main Deal was born, and 9 years this week since our online platform went live. WOW, I’m proud my idea from many moons ago is nearly a decade old!
As some of you may know, there’s always been a 10-year plan. 10 years to try and show you, the local people whilst giving you the understanding of why buying local, first is so important and also visually showing you, how easy it is – it really does take this long.
- Trust
- A woman in IT!
- Understanding the concept, and the why
- Technical understanding
- Introducing something new
- No hidden agenda (no, still none)
- Connecting business and community
- The long-term plan
- Financial cost and sustainability
- To show we’re small enough to care yet big enough to make a difference
Onwards and upwards to our tenth year
Golden arches… really!
Rumours, rumours. Garforth people are brilliant at second-guessing and spreading their thoughts. Dorothy Anne’s building has been sold and is most likely to be rented out to a business, but as to what, not even Anne knows. However, that doesn’t stop the rumour mill. I hear Macdonald’s is the current contender…brilliant. THIS IS VERY UNLIKELY TO EVER HAPPEN, Another huge fast food chain will not be allowed onto our small high street due to the policies written by LCC a few years ago allowing only a certain number of fast food offerings on one high street, and schools in the area also have an influence over fast food choices. LCC wants more healthy offerings, and I think we can all agree, we have our quota of UPF (ultra-processed food) businesses in our town. Also, we have a fabulous group of volunteers called, Garforth Planning Forum and they would kick any golden arch hard who even put the idea into planning.
- by the way, Dorothy Annes have a cracking closing down sale on
Tippl premises – The last I heard, (doesn’t mean it’s true) Scope the charity shop was moving in, and no, not another Café or Restaurant, this would require, a ‘change of use’ and there’s currently nothing in planning, and as work has already started, it’s unlikely to be that. Also, rent at £30k a year, is very unlikely to be anything else other than a charity shop or chain store. PLEASE, NOT A BARBER
Wait to see what the signs say when they go up – listen more about it on this week’s vlog https://bit.ly/3IQ4TZw
Windsarkle
Is anyone else bored, unfazed, or completely disinterested in the Windsarkle tale? (That’s Harry and Meghan) in what’s been a takeover of the news these last few weeks; you do know he’s only doing it to promote his book don’t you? However, the only people that may need shooting are his advisors (Not promoting it…no violence here).. but come on… “Yeah, yeah Hazza, put that in, that’s a super idea me lad”. Apparently, it’s had the nation divided, the older folk think he shouldn’t be doing it, the younger folk a lot couldn’t care, and some think they like him better for speaking out… I can’t believe he’s made it to my blog to be honest!

Recreational car parks
Someone in local politics has annoyed someone in local politics. As usual, I remain apolitical but someone or something has kicked off a rumour that has caused worry regarding the local parking in our recreational car parks. As mentioned in last week’s blog, LCC will be making recreational car parks in our city chargeable, but will this affect Glebelands and Barley Hill’s recreational car parks? Rumour has it, someone, is looking into making those changes. I feel there are enough political dummies to be thrown… out of the pram to make sure this doesn’t happen! We’ll just have to wait and see
