Inclusivity is the practice of ensuring that everyone feels welcome, valued, and respected. It is about creating an environment that embraces diversity and promotes equity, where everyone has equal access to opportunities and resources, regardless of their race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, age, ability, or any other characteristic.
Inclusivity is essential in every aspect of society, including education, the workplace, healthcare, and social settings. It is crucial for promoting social justice and reducing discrimination and inequality.
Being Inclusive through Dance.
Our local Zumba classes include everyone, even me a true professional, when I say professional, don’t think, Jamie Lee Curtis, think more Captain Caveman in a tutu… Lots of people love Zumba, and it’s not just for women, a fair few gents have been before me. Char runs a Zumba Gold class too for the more mature lady or gent who still wants to dance, and we also have the lovely Emmy, who brings such joy to the Tuesday evening class. Emmy is 38 years old with Downs Syndrome, a woman just like us who just loves to dance. Char and all the people who attend Zumba really embrace Emmy, each week her carer accompanies her, some carers give Emmy more confidence than others, and when this happens, Emmy is full of mischief and fun which brings so many smiles to our class…
Zumba is for everyone…..Char has been running Zumba classes in Garforth for 12 years now and she has brought so many people together through dance. Dance for me is the best type of exercise because you can really let yourself be free, and have a ‘reet’ good laugh at the same time, which for many is what you really need in your day. Hedgehogs get a new hospital
It’s wonderful to see that work has commenced this week on the Garforth HOGspital. Over the past few months, I have learned a great deal about Sue and Rob Niven, the couple behind the Garforth Hedgehogs rescue centre. Upon discovering the annual cost of running the centre to be £6k, I was taken aback. I asked Sue about their future plans and shared some ideas with her regarding raising more funds. Sue informed me that their next project was to create an extension to their hog facility by utilising half of their garage space, but this would require a considerable amount of money from their budget. Consequently, I contacted Hipco Yorkshire Ltd and asked if they could assist in any way. They were thrilled to be involved and quickly arranged a meeting with Sue. Subsequently, they reached out to Garforth Building Supplies, and progress has been made. Sometimes, the right connections and conversations can help bring an idea to fruition.

Sunday 30th April THE REPAIR CAFE is FINALLY coming….. and it’s all because of, Dan the Man through Eco-Friendly Garforth.
Before Covid struck, The Repair Cafe was ready to launch with a fantastic group of skilled volunteers and was set to be hosted at Few Gifts. However, due to the pandemic, plans were put on hold for a year or three. In the meantime, other commitments filled my time, preventing me from dedicating the necessary effort to make it a success. Fortunately, Dan, the same person who launched Incredible Edible in Garforth and several other towns across Leeds, is now involved with Eco-Friendly Garforth and has taken on the task of resurrecting the Repair Cafe. I have complete confidence that Dan will make it a success in our community. So, spread the word to friends and family about the opportunity to get items fixed and learn new skills at the same time! (*It’s not a drop-off and pick up service)
Planning
I like this petition – have a read-through and sign if you feel the same as Julia – We have the National Railway Museum and I hear that there is a similar bridge that is being housed and shown there, but rather than seeing our ‘well-old’ bridge moved all the way down to Kent, It would be great if we could keep it in Yorkshire somewhere.
