It’s been a sombre week for those who loved Paul O’Grady, a proud Scouser/Wirraltonian, a character from my side of the water, the posh side of Liverpool. Although there isn’t much difference between our neighbourhoods (the Mersey) we certainly have a more refined way of describing thieving – kleptomaniac. Paul’s unexpected passing has left many of us in shock. He was a legendary figure whose comedy, particularly through his alter ego Lily Savage, pushed boundaries, and said what we dared never to say. As he evolved, shedding his wigs and short skirts, we saw the passionate, fun, and charismatic star that he truly was. Above all, he had a deep love for animals and dedicated much of his life to their care, many people are sharing their doggy pictures on social media to show their love and support – sweet. Soon it will be time to start planting flowers in your tubs, pots and hanging baskets. You can take an extra step towards sustainability by purchasing them from our local independent that sells locally grown flowers.

A lovely collaboration with CLO and Dumouchel
Over Easter and for April, you’ll spot some fundraising for Modecai, a boy The Castles met in Uganda 4yrs ago. He has physical and learning difficulties, as well as a difficult start in life, but he is doing really well. CLO will be sharing his story as we go through the month. They would love to raise some money to help cover some pressing needs he and his family have. First up is a 50p-a-go raffle in the cafe, to be in with a chance of winning a Dumouchel/CLO Easter treat box!
Starting 29th March, the winner is drawn on Maundy Thursday afternoon, to get a prize for Easter weekend.

We are hoping to raise much-needed funds for additional Sound equipment as well as a donation to our member support fund- £1 a ticket
