May Days – three bank holidays in one month wow and yippee. However, while this is a great opportunity for Monday to Friday workers, it can be challenging for shift workers and business owners, so if you see they have offers on over the up-and-coming Bank Holidays do embrace them.
If possible, take advantage of this time and spend it with your family and friends enjoying the improving weather (it is slowly getting better) and enjoy the sweet relief of not having to wake up early on Mondays. Remember how much time we spent together during the COVID pandemic (who can forget) so try and make the most of this chance to connect with your loved ones or just yourself.
Walking Cricket started today at Garforth Parish Cricket Club
It was heartening to witness people of all ages, particularly those with some time on their hands such as retirees, enjoying sports together. This sport is inclusive and non-contact, catering to everyone’s abilities, be it walking, jogging, or running. What’s more, after the game, you get to enjoy some tea and cake, making it an excellent opportunity to socialise and have a good laugh. To learn more, please send an email to Emma.theaker@icloud.com. The ugly side of social media
People commenting on social media posts can provide valuable insights, alternative perspectives, and a sense of community engagement. However, it is important to recognise that not all comments are constructive or beneficial. In fact, social media platforms can often become breeding grounds for negativity, trolling, and harassment. It is important to approach social media comments with a critical eye and be mindful of the impact that they may have on one’s mental health and overall well-being.
On Wednesday, a car accident occurred on Barley Hill Road where the vehicle had flipped over onto its roof. Unfortunately, the comments and engagement that followed were quite negative and insensitive. It was disheartening to see individuals feeling entitled to say whatever they wanted, without knowing the full story. Not a single person enquired about the driver’s well-being, even though the driver happened to be a young, local girl who worked on Main Street.
She was a responsible and new driver who had a dash cam in her car. Despite this, she experienced a freak accident that caused her car to flip. Although she was lucky enough to sustain only superficial injuries, the accident wrecked her car and likely damaged her confidence. It is important to refrain from commenting based on assumptions and perceptions without knowing the full story. Such comments can be hurtful, and it is vital to consider how they might affect others. Instead, we should aim to show compassion and empathy towards those involved in accidents and ask how they are doing before jumping to conclusions. The world is evolving, and the increase in accessibility to news, both real and fabricated is growing, so be kind when you read an article, not all the correct information is shared and not all people’s opinions are true.
Greggs in Primark (Here in Leeds first)
Preggs or Grimarni? I said it here first….
As previously predicted, following the reopening after the pandemic, we have seen a reshuffling of shops and changes on high streets. While collaborations between shops are not entirely unexpected, it is somewhat surprising to see a partnership between Greggs and Primark (or is it, it’s a bit genius isn’t it?) The concept of having a place to eat, shop, and hang out seems to be gaining popularity. However, carrying a sausage roll around while shopping for summer clothes may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but there will be an option to swing on a sausage roll when you pop in or sit on a chair shaped like a donut!! While collaborations between shops can be a great way to increase foot traffic and offer new experiences to customers, It has to be thought through properly, I expect Preggs will do really, really well –
