Welcome back!  It’s bloody June….  how.. please stop time…I hope you had a chance to take a break from the daily grind and escape to a far-flung land; like us, to Lincolnshire! Listen to this week’s vlog where I share my reflections on the past week and emphasise the importance of taking the initiative to make things happen YOURSELF. I also had an interesting conversation with Nij from Saffron and observed some intriguing developments at the top of the old Barclays Bank building (is it soon to be open…?). All change

I feel, we are witnessing some positive changes on Main Street, which is fantastic. It’s remarkable how quickly empty shops get occupied. However, I firmly believe that filling the spaces with just anything might bring its own consequences in the long run. For instance, if we bring in more businesses that are already plentiful, like hairdressers, barbers, or beauticians, it can adversely affect existing businesses, and make it challenging for newcomers to attract customers who are already loyal to their current favourites. It would be beneficial to focus on marketing when you come into any town, find out what the unique offerings are, and how you could compliment what’s already there. Unfortunately, there isn’t such thing as a planning application specifically for a change of use to premises to hair and/or beauty establishments, which is a pity.

The land (used as a car park) between Canton Flavour and Co-op Funeral Care is up for sale for £50k – it could be put to great use for containers for a cool business (just a thought). I suspect some car parking space will still be required. https://shorturl.at/uCNP1

Enhance own Dorothy Anne’s old building and have currently been getting it ready for rent (they’ve had a few offers already) NOT MCDONALDS…. They have recently had a new roof installed, hence all the scaffolding, which should be taken down this month.

 

Pulling on my heartstrings

Yesterday, whilst out walking my dog, I noticed an elderly lady, around 80 years old, walking on the opposite side of the road, visibly upset, and sobbing.  Concerned, I approached her to check if she was alright. It broke my heart to see someone in such distress, especially someone of her age. She expressed her worries about money and coping with life’s challenges. I engaged in conversation, asking about the support she receives from family and friends.   As we walked towards her home, she attempted to invite me in, but I gently reminded her that I was a stranger and she shouldn’t let anyone she didn’t know into her home.  Shortly after, a neighbour appeared, asking over the fence if everything was alright. I explained the situation, and unsurprisingly, learned that the elderly lady suffered from severe dementia and had carers and family members who lookout for her. Relieved that she would be taken care of, I headed home with a heavy heart, realising the sadness, loneliness, and vulnerability she must endure. Thankfully, her neighbour and family were supportive, but it made me reflect on the potential dangers faced by vulnerable individuals.  What if it wasn’t me that spotted her…
