It’s Father’s Day on Sunday – It doesn’t really matter what you buy, it’s more about showing a little appreciation and time for the person that gives you everything, every day; mine was an abusive alcoholic…sad, but true, so I make sure my boys appreciate how great their Dad is, the man I married is the best Dad the boys could wish for, they’re very lucky. So time, is what is given, a good breakfast, a lot of love, and a long walk together. We’re off to Temple Newsam for a walk and breakfast and then the boys (me) have bought him tickets to go and see Jack Whitehall on Sunday night – the oldest son is going too, my youngest doesn’t need any more material.   Leeds Arena are doing a really good deal, only £25 a ticket… winner!  Time together is so important, because as you’re getting older, so are your parents.

Supercars in Garforth

As mentioned on socials yesterday;

“Has anyone else noticed the parade of supercars cruising through Garforth lately? It’s been quite a sight, for people like me who love cars! I’ve personally spotted a McLaren, a Ferrari, an Aston Martin, and even a Bugatti Veyron. As a fellow car enthusiast, I can’t help but wonder what brings these magnificent machines to our town. Could it be that they are eyeing potential development opportunities or business ventures in Garforth? Let’s indulge in some quick speculation and uncover the hidden agenda behind this influx of luxury cars. Perhaps they’ve all relocated to Silverwood?”

The feedback was great, and these are the possibilities as to why we are seeing a fair few beasts roaring (slowly) through our town

  • There’s a supercar specialist in Wetherby, they could just be passing through
  • We’re on the Mclarans test route, so there are always loads of them around
  • The Motorist in Sherburn
  • Some of them are nearby, businesses and residents (lucky buggers)
  • Linda CAstle from CLO said she likes to drive a different one to work every day
  • Ricky Wilson from the Kaiser Chiefs is a car enthusiast and has  storage in Garfoth (apparently)
  • Gumball3000 started in Edinburgh this week and travelled down south, so might have had a few stops en route down the M1
  • Drivers visiting Ginetta

These are all feasible, but I’m seeing drivers in designer ware (i’m observant) and I think it’s more about an interest in Garforth, plot or land, premises, or high street.  It’s the influx all in a short space of time that makes me ponder  –  see if you can spot the supercar

What’s on

  • 17th June and the 24th of June, the Garforth Neighbourhood planning forum will be out in force on Main Street near the post office… They will also have a stall at the Gala on Sunday 25th June, Go and have a chat with the volunteers and ask those questions before you decide to vote on the 29th June… I have a meeting with them this Tuesday to ask a fair few questions before I vote.

  • 17th and18th June at Lotherton Hall – 1940s weekend Lotherton

We’ll transport you back to the war years with vintage music and dancing. The family-friendly tribute shows will be held in the beautiful surroundings of the gardens and will feature songs and dance from the 1940s. The event is included in general admission, you won’t want to miss out

Planning

I don’t really understand the approval – I’ve never seen or read a demand for this requirement – unfortunately, like a busy road, only when there’s an accident do they put up traffic lights – I’m afraid this MAY cause problems and IF it does, only then will they realise they’ve made a mistake.  I’m hoping that by paying staff to stay open in these unsociable hours, with little to no footfall, only trouble, we will see the decision reversed.

  • Bus Strikes – I’m reading from Garforth Academy that the 19 and/or the 19A will not be in service next week due to planned bus strikes, there is an alternative, the 163  if you’re travelling  to Colton/ or Whitkitk
