Rain, rain, go away, for your persistent presence is wearing thin on our patience (pissing us off) As highlighted in this week’s Vlog, there are only so many puddles a child can leap and splash in. If you happen to be of an age, like me, born in the 70s, you might even recall a mystical switch that summoned the sun each summer break https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6qEnG9On5G4 So, rain, if you wouldn’t mind, kindly relinquish your hold. We beseech you to summon that radiant, yellow orb back into the sky (said like a pray to God) We’re not requesting 100 degrees, just enough warmth to drink a refreshing beer in a pub garden, enjoy a leisurely stroll with the sun’s gentle kisses on the skin, indulge in alfresco dining, and to have fun in parks and on beaches where our kids can run wild in sandals (preferably not crocs). And of course, a good old Gin and Tonic always goes down with enthusiasm when the orb is at its peak – Hear our prayer
August = quiet time
August tends to bring a sense of quietness, especially for smaller independent businesses. Many of us take that well-deserved pause, heading out on holidays with loved ones before the inevitable “C” word (not the sweary one) creeps into conversations.
Given the challenges numerous businesses face during this period, I’d like to make a little request. If you’re away, particularly if you’ve opted for a UK getaway; I’m avoiding the lack-luster term ‘staycation’ that somehow doesn’t do justice to the beauty our country holds – consider this: when the sun graces our shores, this land transforms into a truly remarkable destination. So, while you’re enjoying your holiday in the UK, I urge you to support local independent businesses. Embrace the charm of lesser-known village cafes, explore hidden gems in towns, and opt for experiences that highlight the true essence of that local place you have chosen to holiday. Instead of gravitating towards chain restaurants (which might feel like having an English breakfast in a Spanish Irish pub), choose to indulge locally in the flavours of the town. By doing so, you’re still having unique experiences, and actively supporting local businesses. – hear my prayer
