This Sunday the clocks go back, and it means up earlier for some and staying in bed longer for others. I came across an interesting article this week discussing this extra hour we gain or lose (assuming you’re not working or dealing with young kids). It made me realise how that bonus hour whether it’s springing forward or going back, can truly disrupt a few days. It was hinted for smaller kids, between now and Sunday, to let them go to bed 20 minutes later and then in the morning, get them up 20 minutes earlier so that hour doesn’t become an issue!
Now, personally, I am NOT a morning person, even though I wish I were. As I mentioned in this week’s vlog, do we need to keep changing the hour? https://youtu.be/kVDfqbA-8Gw However, if you’ve ever wondered if it is all down to our genetics; whether we’re either night owls or early risers, here’s some further info.
Well, it’s not solely determined by genetics. Environmental and lifestyle factors also play a significant role in determining your chronotype. You can actually do a quiz to find out: Chronotype Quiz https://bit.ly/3QlTanU
These factors can also include:
- Light Exposure: How much natural and artificial light you’re exposed to can impact your sleep patterns. Exposure to morning sunlight can help regulate your circadian rhythms.
- Social and Work Obligations: Your work and social schedules can influence your sleep patterns. Night shift workers, for example, may adapt to being night owls due to their work hours.
- Age: Chronotypes can change with age. Teenagers tend to be night owls, while older adults often become early birds.
- Habits: Your daily routines, such as meal times and exercise, can influence your sleep patterns.
- Stress and Health Conditions: Stress and certain health conditions can affect your sleep patterns.
So, while genetics do play a role, it’s a complex interplay between genetics and environmental factors. Not everyone neatly fits into the categories of a morning person or night owl, many of us fall somewhere in between, a morning owl???
Rumour has it
The Assembly in Garforth has shut its doors. Whether this is a temporary pause or a permanent farewell, I’m still awaiting confirmation. The building has been on the market for a while, though it’s the property, not the business itself, that’s up for sale. If the closure turns out to be permanent, it would be rather sad news. I’ve always cherished the relaxed bar experience it offers, and the staff has consistently been fabulous.
Chairs are in at Izgara, I feel it’s not long away until the big wooden door open
The world we’re in
Religion and war cast a dark shadow, leaving parts of our world in turmoil. It’s disheartening to witness the unnecessary cruelty within our own borders too, where people mistreat one another. The concept of racism, or religious biases has always been beyond my comprehension. After all, who am I? I’m just a white woman who was raised in the Roman Catholic Church. But this background doesn’t elevate me above anyone else. If Roman Catholics were to ignite conflicts in Italy, would we then all suffer the same spats, kicks, and torment?
Religion, in its essence, should be a source of love and faith, a personal connection to something deemed greater, if that’s what you believe. People should embrace the diversity of belief systems and respect the differences. No one is superior for worshiping a different god. However, In the absence of religion, history has shown that humanity may find other reasons to wage wars. It’s a heartbreaking reality shared by many that we can’t just coexist as humans, united by our shared journey on this planet. Luckily, more of us want this.
Something to look forward to;
