Friday 8th December – The Merch of Garforth

I’m keeping a low profile on this, but have you checked out the Garforth Merch at the Post Office? Not only do they have ‘from the heart of Garforth’ cheesy Christmas cards at the counter, but towards the back, they’ve got mugs, a glass chopping board, and a mini tray with a Garforth OS map! It’s a fun and cheesy gift haven. Every year, I send a Garforth Christmas card to my bestie in the Wirral, and she returns the favour with one from my hometown. This time, I opted for the cheesiest card and handed it to the owner—yes, the one who loves to upsell everything. ‘Just one?’ he asked. ‘Yep, one’s plenty!’ I’m not a fan of upselling, especially when it’s unnecessary. I’ve always thought about designing some cheeky upcycled bags for life – you know, the big ones, they ‘could’ say;

  • Garforth: Where the gossip is as fresh as our locally sourced coffee beans
  • Garforth: Home to the Moanifesto where the grumbles are as predictable as the sunrise. (too long?)

Cash flow

Impressive news: the use of cash has surged for the first time in a decade. I believe this shift is attributed to small businesses favoring cash payments. Given the current struggles faced by our local independents, coupled with the escalating card charges, especially for nominal transactions, cash transactions are proving to be more economical.

While many businesses stipulate a minimum spend, opting to pay with cash, particularly for smaller purchases like a lunch sandwich, can provide an extra boost to our local small businesses. Let’s show some love and pay with cash of that’s their preference #SupportLocal #CashIsKing

  • Here’s the list again for The Lions Santa visits across our district  (He’s flying around the Redrow estate tonight) – don’t forget these guys are all volunteers so it’s not possible to get around every street in and around Garforth, choose the place that’s closest to your street and take the kids to meet him, not forgetting your little donation to put in the volunteers buckets

  • Lots under offer but nothing in planning – Still waiting to hear about the plans for the small section of land in between the Co-op Funeral Care and Canton Flavour .  It’s a great space for a small independent, here’s hoping the offer is for a small one
