Congratulations, we’ve made it! Well done to you. Why does it feel as though January has 45 days in the month? However, it’s now gone, and we can truly kick off the new year. I always participate in DRY January. Well, when I say ‘participate,’ it’s more about proving to myself that I can embrace life without alcohol, and you know what? It’s perfectly fine. Some folks grumble about those taking on Dry January, but hey, it’s a personal choice. No one complains about those who aren’t participating! The same goes for Veganuary – you do you.
Since the January blog, there have been a few noteworthy changes. Floors and Snores is slowly relocating back to its warehouse (which is still in Garforth), bidding farewell to its storefront. On a positive note, Izgara has finally opened its doors, and we’re excited to hear about another independent restaurant, Capri, another company eager to join the Garforth community. Amidst all these movements and new beginnings, here’s also what’s happened ⬇️
Changing the boundaries and constituencies
We were aware that changes were on the horizon, but only recently have the specifics regarding our tied areas been confirmed. Much like many other towns, the reshuffling doesn’t quite align when you examine the map.
In Leeds East, adjustments are happening so Garforth, and Swillington ward are now tied in with Gipton, and Harehills ward, which is also bringing about the anticipation of a new Member of Parliament. Meanwhile, the Kippax and Methley ward is set to become part of Selby.
Amid these changes, there are always those with opinions, some of which we’d rather not hear. Unfortunately, there are still voices marked by prejudice or racism, but fortunately, they remain in the minority. – Like a TV program, if you don’t like the series of events, you don’t have to watch it and make a comment
Izgara – how fabulous
I had the privilege of being invited to one of their soft opening evenings this week, and it truly felt like a special experience, the turnout was impressive on both evenings. It was also heartening to witness Bella Vita, the owners of Izgara, extend invitations to some of their loyal customers for the event – a thoughtful touch.
I’m thrilled that Garforth now boasts another fantastic establishment. The offering is truly fabulous, and it’s evident that no expense was spared on the interiors and furnishings. Having another exceptional addition to Garforth is always welcome, especially when a family is dedicated to investing in our town. Such developments raise the bar for the town, attracting more interest and inspiring further exciting ventures. It’s moments like these that contribute to the town’s vibrancy. If only CLO could stay open; it’s a sentiment shared by many.
Capri – Yet Another Italian?
Exciting news that a new restaurant is eager to open its doors in Garforth, but I can’t help but notice it’s another Italian addition – the fifth one, to be precise. If you’ve spotted the signs near Premier Fitness on Aberford Road, you’re on the right track. I’ve reached out to the Capri team via email, hoping for a conversation to delve into their plans (currently not in planning) and understand why they believe another Italian establishment is a compelling idea.
While I appreciate the charm of Italian cuisine, many locals, regardless of proximity to the restaurant, might be longing for something diverse and fresh. As they say, it’s all Greek to me! And speaking of which… Greek cuisine, anyone?

- February The Knife Angel, an extraordinary and impactful statue shedding light on the detrimental consequences of violent behaviour and advocating for change, will be on display outside the Royal Armouries throughout February. Having been witnessed by many of my friends in their hometowns, they highly recommend a visit. Beyond its powerful presence, I believe that introducing children to this exhibit is crucial for educational purposes. The Sculpture is made out of 100,000 seized blades and stands 27ft tall
