The sun is trying and, the birds are chirping—can you feel it? That little glimmer of warmer weather is making its debut, attempting to grace our faces with a little kiss. And oh, how it takes us to our happy place!
With the sun comes great things… Longer walks, a chilled glass of wine in the garden, sizzling BBQs filling the air with tantalising aromas, freshly planted flowers, the fruits of your growing crop, and the satisfying sight of a neatly trimmed lawns. Ah, and let’s not forget the satisfaction of seeing your neighbour’s bush finally getting a trim!
In the UK, where summer celebrations may not be as grand as America’s 4th of July, we find joy in the simple pleasures that come with sunny days. While we reserve our festivities for the colder months—Halloween, Bonfire Night, Christmas, and New Year—there’s something uniquely delightful about basking in the sunshine. A new shop and ‘THAT SIGN’
It’s disheartening to witness the unnecessary negativity surrounding the opening of a new shop in place of Dorothy Anne’s. A simple sign sparked controversy, with some comments revealing disturbing racial undertones. Just when we hope racism is fading, it rears its ugly head. I refrain from following some local Facebook pages, yet details of the situation find their way to me. It’s clear that many others are equally appalled by these unwarranted opinions. I can’t help but wonder how many have visited the shop and discovered valuable, useful products on offer. On the other hand, how many may have entered with unkind intentions—likely limited to the realm of social media. Ultimately, this business will either flourish or flounder, and time will be the judge. While freedom of speech is a right, it shouldn’t be an excuse for unkindness. Is it merely a power trip?
