Wow, where did June go? July is most certainly here and it always brings the C word… Christmas parties and Christmas events and the, book early messages. Temple Newsam has even released tickets for their Northern Lights experience, (see below in, ‘What’s coming up’ for links)
No mud in sight
I thoroughly enjoyed Glastonbury on the TV last weekend, if you were there… very envious. Wasn’t it so good? So much so, that I have registered my interest for 2025, oh my word, I never thought I would think about going to a festival, let alone register my interest! But I said, as I turn 50 and feel lucky to be in this position (as a few friends weren’t so lucky to get to this age), I will try 50 new things, big or small. We’re here for such a short time and we don’t know how long or short that will be…
If we are lucky enough to get tickets, I’m taking the family. It’s a perfect excuse to hire somewhere comfortable. I’m not slumming it at 50—I’ve been there, done that, and earned the Silver DofE!
Just like England playing in the Euros or World Cup, what I love about these events is that when the world feels a bit down, you see people coming together and having the best time. It proves that even when things seem bleak, moments like Coldplay’s emotional and lovely performance as the Saturday night headline act at Glastonbury can bring joy to everyone. Thankfully, Coldplay’s fabulous tribute band, ‘Ultimate Coldplay,’ will be performing at our very own local Glasto, GFest, on the 20th of July. It’s something special and lovely to look forward to in our community too!
It’s all gone red
Well, Leeds has spoken, and it has turned very red indeed with every constituency voting for change. I generally do not delve into political chat as everyone has their reasons for who they want to vote for, and for me, for the past four elections, it’s always been GREEN. That’s where I want to see the direction of the country going.
I’ve read a lot this morning on social media platforms about how the new government fit is sitting. Taking the idiots out of the equation—’Gaza is Garforth’ was one! Yes, we have these people living locally! Overall, people seem happy but also have the right to be nervous. It’s a huge job and a huge undertaking for whoever took the reins from Rishi. Good luck getting people behind you all the way, was Labour the vote because people just couldn’t vote Conservative?
20 years and dancing
Congratulations to the wonderful Caroline Atha and her school! Last weekend, they “put on a show” titled “Better When We’re Dancing” to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Caroline running CASOD. Wow, what an amazing achievement!
Not only did they dance and celebrate, but CASOD also raised £5,000 for Mind and Young Minds, which is incredibly important, and £500 for Cancer Research. Well done!

Planning
There is not much in the way of new planning applications at the moment, but I have scheduled a follow-up email to the Streets and Parks department of LCC to ask if there has been any progress on my intermittent yellow lines idea for Fairburn Drive, Church Lane, and Ninelands Lane. It’s always worth a poke from time to time!
