Did you celebrate Yorkshire Day? I did, but never mind that—it was also glass-collection-in-your-green-bin day! What’s not to love about that? Watching your neighbours who use lots of glass…drag their once light green bin up their driveway is going to be fun to watch and if you miss it, the bin men will show you in their struggle…😊😊 how many people are now going to be quietly pulling their bins up in the dark? Here’s to better class recycling, and to you for doing your bit! It’s much better than having 11 tonnes of glass ending up in black bins. And yes, that’s 11 tonnes in just one year!
When the sun shines and the school bell rings its last 🔊, there’s a delightful sound in the air: teachers sprinting home, car doors slamming, shoes scurrying, and the collective sigh of relief as alarms are set to OFF for six weeks. Meanwhile, on the flip side, we hear the screams of parents juggling kids, work, and household admin. I find that giving up on the housework can be a way forward, or better yet, getting the kids to pick up and earn that all-important pocket money, keeping them busy if you’re not out and about with them
. 
I’ve always loved school holidays because it’s a time when we can ease off the gas pedal a bit. The strict schedule and school admin can take a backseat, and you don’t have to shout, “Come on, you’re going to be late for school, and other expletives as time moves forward!” And 8 am, ah now becomes mornings of peace as you hear their snuffles of lie-ins – Oh how I loved those days! A study proves that Teenagers do actually need more sleep – BUT SO DO MUM’S so the recent study shows, ‘ Women need more sleep because they use their brains more throughout the day’. It’s a study so it must be true!
August is a fantastic time for holidays, whether by plane or a long car journey. However, this also means it’s not the best time for towns’ high streets unless you’re lucky enough to be part of a holiday destination. Our high streets experience a dip in footfall during January, February, August, and October. So, when you’re not on holiday, take the children or encourage them, if they’re old enough, to explore and support their local high street. It helps keep the shops you want.
Rumours – Gossips Twisted Paths
I touched on this in our, last Wednesday vlog for the summer, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dKfMeT6e-jA and I do mention it from time to time. When people hear a little something and then make it into a big something that more often isn’t true, it drives me around the bend! 🚗🔄🛣️ Rather than finding out the facts, people just add a little bit more to the rumour mill or go and tell someone else. It’s like a cross between a Chinese whisper and a Chinese burn!
Lately, it’s been another local business that has heard the rumour they are closing – NO ONE IS CLOSING. If you ever hear this, 👂 please go and investigate with the business itself. This helps them decide what to do next, whether putting something on their social pages or just waiting for the rumour to die down. Either way, they then have the choice to stop it in its tracks should they wish.
La Bella Vita went through months of rumours until they put out a statement. Then it was Taylor’s Hairdressing – They were just rebranding and are now Northern Roots Little do the circles of speculation know how much it can impact on businesses. Perhaps putting their brains into gear before letting their mouths drive would be more helpful!

- It looks like we’re getting a Savers – health/home/beauty shop – according to a planning application for a change of sign (I think where Pep & Co used to be, it says Unit 2!). Do we need another one of these retail stores? Always a pity it’s not an independent business moving in.

- Aagrah has a planning application in to extend the rear of the restaurant and increase the flat roof height, which may just be for the kitchen area.
